An exhibition showing a collection of small circus paintings, illustrating characters and scenes inspired from a Victorian Circus and Vaudeville Theatre. Portraying performers such as The RingMaster, The Tightrope Walker, clowns, The Lion Tamer, The Fortune Teller, The Magician and The Strong Man.
Liza Shackleton is an Edinburgh-based artist. Her collection of small circus paintings are inspired by looking at vintage photographs of performers from A Victorian Circus and Vaudeville Theatre and reading novels such as Angela Carter’s Nights at the Circus.
Liza was Artist in Residence at The Sett Studios, Edinburgh and created work for a solo exhibition titled “Run Away and Join The Circus.” These circus paintings also reflect on our identity, our true selves and ask the question which circus performer would you be and why?
