Lydia Budler

Art House 29
Address: 17 Bellfield Street
Open: 6/7 September, 10am-6pm

Lydia’s work embodies memory and nostalgia. Using embroidery and detailed beadwork, she immerses herself in her family history to inspire decorative wall hangings and embroidered works.

As an embroiderer, Lydia ensures her work has depth and detail in terms of it’s physicality, structure and where the ideas stem from. Using a loom based beading technique, she creates structures and wall decoration with bright pattern and unique texture..

Her current project focuses on memories, histories and archives of ‘Cropple How’ – her grandparents’ home. Recently faced with the reality of letting it go, Lydia has had opportunities to reminisce and be reminded of the significance of her family’s farmhouse in Ravenglass. In this collection, she relays the nostalgia of her own memories while discovering new ones of others. Her research stems from recordings of her Grandma, found notebooks, old clothing and many photographs.
