Alastair Hearsum

Art House 9
5 Bath Street
Open: 6/7 September, 10am-6pm

A varied collection of photographs, primarily of local landscapes. Printed using giclée technology, in large formats to highlight fine details and convey the scale of the subject matter.

Alastair’s  photography is straightforward and pictorial, with little concern for hidden meanings or symbolism. He takes a casual, scattershot approach, dismissing concepts like “practice” or “research.” earning him the probable accusation of “amateur”! He’ll snap a photo anytime, anywhere with any camera, demonstrating that sometimes good photography can be just about capturing what’s in front of you.

A painting graduate of Edinburgh College of Art (1st class), he won awards such as the Royal Scottish Academy student medal and the Andrew Grant Travelling Scholarship, which took him to India. His career led to a 33-year journey in London’s advertising and entertainment industries, earning him BAFTA nominations for Black Mirror and an Emmy for VFX amongst other gongs. In 2019, he “retired” to Portobello, now photographing what’s in front of him and working on select animation projects.
