Sideshow Ceramic figures and beasts comprising two curiously configured family groups in the presence of the strange and unusual inhabitants of the fairground sideshow.
Jan’s art explores relationships, identities, memory and outsiders / otherness. Ceramics are central to her practice and her imagined beings are surreal, distorted and hybrid. These ideas relate powerfully to the worlds of the showground, fairs and sideshows, where the unconventional and curious are encountered. The ceramic pieces on display reflect on what is other and what that otherness tells us about ourselves.
