‘The Shows’ is a series of curated film shorts created in partnership with the Moving Images Caravan as part of the 2025 Art Walk Porty Festival at Edinburgh’s seaside, Portobello.
The programme centres around coastal resort entertainment and travelling showpeople culture. The films will be shown inside the Moving Images Caravan (a solar powered cinema caravan) located within the historical site of Portobello’s entertainment era, that once housed everything from sideshows, fairground, cinemas and amusements. Through this programme we’re looking to make connections to different seaside locations celebrating place, play and seaside entertainers.
We invite creatives to submit short films for inclusion in the programme that connect with:
- Caravan culture, particularly travelling showpeople communities
- Seaside coastal resort entertainment, in the past, or present
- Street play, public space as a playground for community activity
Films with be screened inside the Moving Images Caravan, arranged into a series of ten-minute reels for visitors to watch.
Genres of art film, experimental, video art or animation are all welcome. Open to submissions from across the UK and international. Small screening fees will be paid for selected films.
The film shorts submitted need to be no longer than 10 minutes in duration, ideally 2-5 minutes. The programme will run across the weekend of 13th/14th September.

– two still images from submitted film

– description of why this programme interests you/ connects to your submission
– contact info, including email, website, social media accounts
Deadline for submissions: 11 July
All applicants will be informed about outcomes by 22 July
